The DC Universe animated feature Superman/Batman: Apocalypse will be out on DVD/Blu-ray this fall and features the voice talents of Kevin Conroy, Tim Daly, and actress Summer Glau.
The two titans of the DC Comics Universe – Batman and Superman – will make their next appearance together on the small screen in the DC Universe animated feature Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, which will be out on Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand at the end of September.
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse will be the ninth entry in the DC Universe Animated series of PG-13 features, and will be the second entry based off the Superman/Batman comic book series that was authored by new Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb back in 2003. It is being produced by superhero animation legend Bruce Timm and directed by Lauren Montgomery (who helmed the Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths and Wonder Woman animated features).
Like its predecessor – last year’s Superman/Batman: Public Enemies – this new entry will feature Kevin Conroy and Tim Daly as the voices of Batman and Superman, respectively. Both voice actors also lent their vocal talents to the characters’ animated TV shows back in the 90s to fan acclaim.
Joining the voice cast of Apocalypse will be actress Summer Glau, who has a strong sci-fi/geek following due to her turns in the cult TV shows Firefly and The Sarah Connor Chronicles. She will voice Supergirl, a.k.a. Superman’s cousin Kara, another survivor from the planet Krypton who eventually chooses to become a defender of humanity.
Here is the official synopsis for Superman/Batman: Apocalypse:
After a spaceship splashes down in Gotham City Harbor, Batman and Superman encounter a mysterious Kryptonian with powers as great as those of the Man of Steel. The Kryptonian is soon revealed to be Kara, cousin of Superman, who takes her under his wing to educate her about the ways of Earth.
However, the villainous Darkseid has other plans. Seeing an opportunity to finally defeat Superman, Darkseid abducts and gains control of Kara, utilizing the powerful Kryptonian to do his bidding. It’s up to Batman and Superman to save Kara, but they’ll have to take the fight to Darkseid within his hostile world – where unknown, deadly threats lurk around every corner, including a brainwashed Kryptonian able to match Superman blow-for-blow.
